Hello,
The latest version of the Oriya font being developed
by Rajesh Pradhan has
been uploaded to the download page on
http://oriya.sarovar.org site (along
with some other items like a UTF-8 version of the
glossary). This is now a
bilingual font including English characters and
punctuation, and fixes
problems with the tables that were noted by the
Japanese m17n people. Please
try it out, and comment on any further changes needed
to the font by Dec. 25.
We would like to bring out a new version of the font,
addressing outstanding
issues by early next year.
Here are the current issues as far as I am aware of
them:
1. ja-phala vs. ya-phala: As was the consensus
decision, the font will be
changed so that ja-phala as commonly understood in
Oriya, is inserted
using halant + U0B5F, instead of halant + U0B2F as
at present. Once this
is done, I will take care of converting the text
that has already been
   entered.
2. We will type up an exhaustive list of conjuncts to
test that they are being
formed correctly. Currently, this is not for
cosmetic issues, but for
outright errors, such as earlier problems where lla
was being used in the
conjuncts where la should have been used. You are
welcome to send in any
   problems that you have noticed.
3. The issue of the ZWNJ (U200C) and ZWJ (U200D) being
included in the font
was raised by Pansaribabu. While I agree that they
are indeed useful, I
have changed my mind about it being indispensable
to include them in the
Oriya font, as they are already available in many
other Unicode fonts,
including raghu.ttf. I will leave it up to the font
people to decide
   whether to do this.

Regards,
Gora
