Hello,
I have made a beta version of an aspell 0.60
dictionary for Oriya, available at
<http://oriya.sarovar.org/download/aspell6-or-0.0.1.tar.bz2>
You will need aspell 0.60.1 or better (see
http://aspell.net). Install aspell, then install
the Oriya dictionary as per instructions in the
aspell6-or-0.0.1/README file obtained by extracting
the archive. After installation, you can interactively
spellcheck a UTF-8 encoded test file (say, test.utf8)
in gnome-terminal under Linux with the command
"env LANG=or_IN aspell -c test.utf8". You will
probably need to have an Oriya locale installed,
and gnome-terminal does not really render Oriya
properly. I will soon try out the gedit spellchecker
plugin that apparently supports aspell.
The current version of the dictionary has many
limitations: the wordlist is very small (it uses the
Rebati glossary), and support for advanced aspell
features like affixes, sounds-like, etc. is lacking,
though I will try to fix that soon. Please send me
comments on the dictionary.
In case you were not aware, aspell is a widely-used,
open-source spellchecking tool that also has a Windows
version. As it was quite easy to make up this
dictionary, I would be glad to make such a rudimentary
version (advanced versions require knowledge of the
language) for all Indian langauges in Unicode (a
Bengali aspell dictionary is already available),
provided you can point me to a UTF-8 encoded list of
words (one per line).
Regards,
Gora
