Hello,
It seems that complex text layout will be supported
in Scribus 1.3.0, the CVS for which should be released
real soon now. From the top story on Feb. 17, 2005
on the Scribus homepage,
<http://www.scribus.org.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=84>
( Some screenshots are also available at
http://www.scribus.org.uk/gallery/13/ ):
...
Scribus has supported Unicode and OpenType fonts for a
very long time, as well as right-to-left languages.
One long-standing wish of the team has been to fully
support complex language scripts such as Indic and
Arabic where glyph combination is a requirement. With
major development geared towards Indic scripts at
first, some screenshots are now available of a branch
of Scribus 1.3.0cvs showing correct glyph combination
and rendering.
...
Scribus 1.3.0cvs will be released very soon to the
public and once the language development is enhanced
further, it will be merged into the main tree and be
publicly available for testing.

Regards,
Gora
