[+PLUS] debian etch (attention praveen)

Hi,

got Debian CDs from Praveen when i attended the PLUS meeting on 30 Dec 2006

:-)

praveen, i have  a few issues, would appreciate if i get help.

i'm new to Debian, only familiar with redhat systems.

while installing i had faced problems configuring network, so i was not able
to reach any of the mirror sites.
however, i was successful in installing the base system in my laptop with
out bootloader being installed (i have XP in my company provided machine).

my problem is with aptitude , apt-get  install etc.

i am not aware of the way they work.
i could figure out that it looks at /etc/apt/sources.list file for the
mirrors and package locations.

my problem is that i dont know how to install the deb packages which i am
looking for, i donno the names. and i could figure out that the few mirror
sites which i had listed didnt have package information...

1. i need libstdc++5
2. i need rpm support.
3. need alien ( i believe thats the program which helps me install softwares
from rpms)

which are the best mirrors for debian etch 4.0
