[Smc-discuss] Setting up CVS - question from a Newbie

Hello,
       I am Anil S Babu (you can call me ASB). I
joined this project very recently. I am in touch with
V P Suresh to get the things started. 
       I have set up CVS successfully. As per Suresh's
guide lines, I have uncheckout the directory
malayalamgnome. 

       But, I am wondering
1. How to get a look at the entire source tree through
CVS (now I got the directory name straight from the
web page).
I tried,
$ cvs -d:pserver:asb at cvs.smc.sarovar.org:/cvsroot/smc
login
Logging in to
:pserver:asb at cvs.smc.sarovar.org:2401/cvsroot/smc
CVS password:

where 'asb' is my login name for sarovar.org and
password I used is also the same as for sarovar.org

But it fails throwing an error,
cvs [login aborted]: connect to
cvs.smc.sarovar.org(202.88.238.22):2401 failed:
Connection refused

So, how to do this?



2. How/What to begin with? I need to get the feel of
the kind of work going on, to know where I can
contribute. Also, please let me know about any ref.
documents before I actually begin.

3. What if the net connection goes in between? Is it
like, I can check out the files once, work in my free
time, and check in as and when they are completed? 

4. Any formal inspection kind of processes before
checkin ?
